Continuing our journey of glorious and gluttonous discovery, we’re delighted that on the 17th May, we will be welcoming Johnathan Grieve, whose family own the Avondale Vineyard in South Africa, to the Bowcliffe Drivers’ Club for the third members’ evening. Johnathan will be flying all the way from SA to be with us, and we’re very grateful to our friends at House of Townend for organising this special, not to be missed visit!
Johnathan will be talking about the organic and biodynamic practices he developed following a catastrophic fire that wiped out most of their vineyard in 2000. The fire gave him an opportunity to look at what modern science, technology and sustainability could offer and blended these into his winemaking. Using nature as a model, mentor and measure, Johnathan built soil fertility, planted new vines and set about achieving the goal of making natural delicious wines in a healthy, balanced environment.
We’re particularly looking forward to what Johnathan will make of our unhealthy, unbalanced environment as our genius Chef, John Topham, will be complementing the Avondale Wines with his delicious food; so you’ll be neither hungry nor sober! If wine isn’t your thing then our bar will be open for soft drinks, beers and anything else you may like.
To maintain the quality of the event and Johnathan’s presentation, we are limiting numbers to 65 members. There may be room for Members to bring a guest but priority will be given to Members so please RSVP as soon as possible to Michael Gledhill at firstname.lastname@example.org. If you’re not on the list we won’t be able to squeeze you in and Andy on the door is a big lad!
