Event: New Zealand vs South Africa Tasting Challenge - 10 October

10th October 2019

Award-winning wine journalist, Master of Wine and author of The Wines of New Zealand Rebecca Gibb joins Master of Wine, Richard Kelley during an evening which will see the two aficionados challenge each other to put forward their favourite wines based on seven categories: Sparkling, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Aromatic white / blend, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Bordeaux Blends.

Rebecca and Richard will be introducing their wines blind as pairs and guests will be invited to vote on each category.

A two-course light supper will be served after the tasting in The Drivers’ Club.

When: Thursday October 10th, 2019

7 pm start, 7 – 9 pm Tasting Challenge followed by light supper

Where: The Drivers’ Club at Bowcliffe Hall

Cost: £85 per person

During the evening, you will have the opportunity to further your wine knowledge with two of the most prolific experts in their field.

Rebecca Gibb MW

Rebecca secured her first editorial role at UK wine trade magazine Harpers after being named UK Young Wine Writer of the Year in 2006 and has since edited several print and online publications. In 2015, Rebecca became one of only 380 Masters of Wine in the world. In a record class of 24 graduates, she was awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award and the Bollinger Medal in recognition of outstanding tasting ability.

Richard Kelley MW

Over the past 15 years, Master of Wine Richard Kelley has become one of the most respected authorities on South African wine in the UK and beyond. Between 1995 and 2002, he lived and worked in the Cape, witnessing the renaissance of the post-apartheid wine industry. Throughout this fruitful period, he established a healthy rapport with the great and the good of the local wine scene, affording him access to their distinguished cellars. He returns to the Cape several times a year on a mission to uncover – and liberate – the hidden gems of the Cape.
